Call for Photographers for the 2012 BC Games

From:
John Willis

Hi Everyone,

We are still collecting names of photographers interested in being a part of the 2012 BC Games fun, so if you know of anyone interested in volunteering, please have them send me an email.

If any of you are in a camera club, in the Okanagan area, we are putting together a poster to call for photographers. Would it be possible to display one of these at your local club?

There are some photo ops coming up with businesses that have signed on as friends of the games. We wish to get photos of the business staff members wearing BC Games attire. Would any of you who are present volunteers be willing to get some of these shots as they are required?

The email should contain:

Name
Phone #
Cell #
Camera type (DSLR, not model)
Lenses i.e. 70-200 2.8, 80-300 4.5, 17-50 2.8, etc.
Card type (what type of card goes in the camera)

Cheers,

John Willis

In Search of a Better Photographer – November 12, 2011 – Kamloops

This presentation is meant to appeal to those members of CAPA Clubs who would like some guidance on how make their images better in field, rather than via post processing. It does not teach Camera fundamentals and will not show anyone how to turn on their camera, but does deal with the mysteries of the esoteric values of imagery like light and shadow, via simple and easily understood explanation.

Parking

It is apparent that we are starting to have a bit of a parking problem…..in one way it is a good as it is an indication of a good turnout of members.  I might suggest that if you can’t find a spot, you could double park behind another car.  I’m sure the other car’s owner wouldn’t mind as we pretty well all leave at the same time.  Something to think about.

PANORAMA FIELD TRIP – OCT 16TH

Broc Popoff will be hosting a panorama field trip/workshop on Sunday, Oct 16th……He is asking participants to meet in the Dilworth Mountain Park at 3:30 p.m.  He advises that up to 15 people would be a good working number.  So far we have 6 members signed up.  The signup sheet will be on the registration table once again at Tuesday night’s meeting, Oct 11th.

PRESENTATIONS

Last week I started the meeting off with a small awards presentation….A Life Membership was presented to Avona Christiansen.  Avona became a member of COPS in 1994 and throughout her tenure with the club served in many capacities on the executive until her retirement in 2009.  Lynda Miller, a former President was presented with a CAPA Service Medal for dedicated executive service.  Lynda served on the executive from 2003 – 2009.  Special name tags were presented to Sandi Stang, Avona Christiansen, Greg Dean, Suzanne Phillips and Paul Lewendon.  The name tags were representative of long time continuous membership in COPS. Please note the attachment which is a thank you from Avona which we felt should be shared with everyone.

Photo Life Magazine

The list of names of members who purchased a subscription to Photo Life has been put in the mail.  (We had 27 names) If your subscription was a new one, you should receive your first copy in November but if for some reason it misses a deadline – then Feb will be your first issue.  Renewals just continue on with no interruptions.

Evaluation Night

This coming Tuesday is Evaluation Night….The category is Open and we should see a lot of excellent photos.  I understand that 24 prints have been submitted and Dan Poppoff tells me that he has everything in hand for the digital image presentation.  We should have a good turnout to view a summer’s worth of work.

Oct 18th– NO MEETING – Outdoor meeting with Michael Healey

Our regular meeting on Oct 18th at the EECO Centre has been replaced by an outdoor meeting.  For those of you that wish to participate, Michael Healey is hosting an outdoor night shoot in the downtown area of Kelowna.  This is in a way a follow up to Greg Dean’s presentation on exposure night and day which he presented last week.  Michael has put together a suggested information list (which I sent out to each of you earlier on} on what to bring, suggested equipment even what to wear.  He is asking those that taking in the night shoot to meet at the “Sails” foot of Bernard Ave at 6:30 p.m.  THEREFORE THERE WILL BE NO MEETING AT THE LITTLE LOG HOUSE ON SPRINGFIELD THAT NIGHT.

For details on the evening outing,  please see the attached document Night Photography Notes
